Vol. 306 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Road Improvement.

9.

asked the Minister for the Environment when work is likely to start on the provision of an adequate road from Chapelizod to Leixlip, County Dublin.

Detailed plans for the improvement of this route have not been submitted to me and I am not, accordingly, in a position to give the information requested.

Is it not a fact that the CPO in relation to the city part of the proposed road is being held by an official of his Department and have the inspectors reported to him?

The area concerned is Chapelizod to Leixleip. The position with regard to the Chapelizod bypass is that Dublin Corporation have submitted a CPO for confirmation by the Minister for the land required for this scheme. A CPO inquiry was held in December 1977 and a grant of £75,000 was allocated for this scheme in 1978. Palmerstown-Ballydowd: Dublin County Council have submitted a CPO for confirmation by me for the land required in this scheme. A CPO inquiry was held on 13 April 1978 and a transcript of the evidence is awaited in my Department. Lucan bypass: This section follows immediately after the two mentioned. Outline proposals by Dublin County Council were submitted to my Department. The proposals envisage a new road to dual carriageway standard over a distance of 2.8 miles towards Leixleip at an estimated cost of £2 million. Further details have been requested from the council and these are still awaited.

Will this be to the north or south of the Liffey?

It is from Chapelizod to Leixleip.

In relation to the Chapelizod bypass, has the Minister made a decision to confirm, vary or reject the recommendation of the officers of his Department?

I have made £75,000 available for it.

The CPO is holding up everything.

The money has been set aside.

Is the Minister aware of very substantial community objections to details of the Chapelizod bypass? Will he bear them in mind when he is making a decision on the CPO?

I was not aware of these, but objections will always be considered.

Perhaps if I write to the Minister on the subject he will bear them in mind.

Yes, if the Deputy would, please.
