Vol. 307 No. 1

Written Answers . - Old Age Pension Payment .

138.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider the payment by cheque of pensions to old age pensioners who are unable to travel to post offices regularly.

: I am of the opinion that the present system of pension order books is the most reliable method of ensuring punctual and regular payment of pension to old age pensioners. Where pensioners are unable to travel to post offices regularly, there is provision for the appointment of agents to cash orders on their behalf. Alternatively, the weekly payments due may be allowed to accumulate for longer periods provided the cashing of any pension order is not delayed longer than 13 weeks.
