asked the Minister for Agriculture the percentage of farmers making silage in the State, in each county and in West Cork.
Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Silage Making .
: Since 1974 the collection of data on silage making has been carried out by the Central Statistics Office but the information available from that office does not extend to the details sought by the Deputy. With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report a table giving the information sought for 1974, the latest year for which these details are available.

: Does the Minister consider that there is any great value in collecting these statistics if the latest figures available are for 1974?
: I agree that the 1974 figures lose a great deal of relevance.
: I know the Minister is not responsible for the Central Statistics Office, but would he ask them to evaluate the situation and if it is worth while to do it promptly?
: I expect that the Central Statistics Office appreciate the dropping value of their statistics as they become older, that it is more difficult to apply them to contemporary situations.
