Vol. 307 No. 13

Written Answers . - Unemployment Statistics .

149.

asked the Taoiseach the estimated number of people under 25 years unemployed in this country.

: The only comprehensive source of information on unemployed persons classified according to age groups is the series of labour force surveys. The results from the 1975 survey show that there was an estimated 46,000 unemployed persons under 25 years at the end of May in that year, of which 19,700 were seeking regular work for the first time.

A further labour force survey was taken in the spring of 1977 and it is anticipated that the first results will be available shortly.
