Written Answers . - Tax Yields .

120.

asked the Minister for Finance the revised estimated yield for 1978 for (a) income tax; and (b) capital taxes; and the comparable figures for 1973.

: As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Head of Revenue

Net Receipts 1973-74 (1)

£million

(a) Income Tax

591.5

221.6

(b) Capital Taxes (2)

(1) The receipt figure given here is for the financial year 1973-74. The changeover to the calendar year basis took place in 1974. The figure of £221.6 million includes income tax payable by companies which, at that time, were liable to income tax and corporation profits tax. The corresponding figure for 1978 relates to income tax payable by individuals; companies are not now liable to income tax, being chargeable to corporation tax only.

(2) The capital taxes in 1978 are estate, legacy and succession duties, wealth tax, capital acquisitions tax and capital gains tax. The capital taxes in 1973-4 were estate, legacy and succession duties.
