asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the grave dissatisfaction in certain parts of Dún Laoghaire constituency at the difficulties experienced by telephone subscribers who had numbers changed without receiving the new telephone directory, and who are finding it impossible to make or receive calls as a result; and if he will take action to have the situation remedied.

: Some 940 telephone numbers in the Dún Laoghaire area were changed to coincide with the issue of the new telephone directory. Because of the large numbers of directories involved—over 200,000 in the Dublin/Dún Laoghaire area—it takes at least a fortnight to complete deliveries. The inconvenience caused by the time-lag between receipt of directories by many subscribers and the date of introduction of the new telephone numbers is regretted.

The subscribers concerned were given considerable advance notice of the proposed change in their telephone numbers so that they could make appropriate arrangements including advising their customers or friends if they considered this necessary.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is hoped to provide telephone facilities for applicants from the Cloverhill Estate, Bray, County Wicklow.
