Vol. 307 No. 14

Written Answers . - Kinsale Textile Firm Closure .

99.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the closure of a textile firm in Kinsale, County Cork, known as the House of Stanley; and if he will make a statement on the matter, with reference to the entitlement of the 29 employees to recover arrears of wages due to them averaging about £300 each, together with unemployment benefits.

: I am aware of the closure in question. The factory closed on 20 April and notices of redundancy have been received by the local employment exchange.

Unemployment benefits have been paid where due and as regards employees who are qualified for redundancy lump sums, I will arrange to have their lump sums paid from the redundancy fund.

As regards wages and holiday pay, these are statutorily preferential payments and the workers concerned should serve their claims on the liquidator.
