Vol. 308 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pupil Transfers.

503.

asked the Minister for Education if, in addition to the pupil transfer committee established by him, there exists a committee to study the age of transfer between primary and post-primary school; the terms of reference and membership of any such committee; when it was established; and when he expects it to report.

There is no formal committee in existence for this purpose. I have, however, on 31 August 1978, requested two inspectors to discuss with two teachers the question of the period to be spent in infant classes and the desirability or otherwise of establishing a minimum age below which pupils should not be promoted from infants to first standards.

I am not in a position to say when I may have a report of these discussions.
