asked the Minister for Education if he will state (a) the amount of money allocated to VEC's this year; (b) when such finance was allocated; (c) the amount received by each VEC Committee; (d) the number of schemes carried out by VEC's with this finance; and (e) if he has any plans for an increase in the allocation of funds to VEC's.
Written Answers. - Vocational Education Financing.
(a) The total authorised allocated to the 38 vocational education committees this year was £46,393,571 for their ordinary schemes and £8,394,300 for the nine regional technical colleges; (b) The allocations were made on 28 September 1978, and 6 October respectively; (c) The amount allocated to each vocational education committee and each regional technical college is, as per attached schedules. The amounts allocated to the committees do not include a sum of £300,000 provided for the promotion of youth and sport activities in the various committee areas; (d) Each of the 38 vocational education committees operates its own scheme which involves in general the financing and development of education within its own area. This includes the payment of its employees, the maintenance of schools and classes, the administration of colleges of technology and regional technical colleges, where applicable, and the making of provision for scholarships and grants. They are also deeply involved in the organisation of pre-employment courses and apprenticeship courses and in the promotion of youth and sport activities; (e) It is my intention to continue to make adequate financial provision to committees for the operation and development of their schemes.
