Vol. 308 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tynagh Mine Workers.

40.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if the workers locked out at the Tynagh mine in Galway are receiving any unemployment benefit.

Employees of Irish Base Metals Ltd., Tynagh, County Galway, are not receiving payment of unemployment benefit as a deciding officer determined that they were disqualified for the receipt of such benefit because they lost their employment by reason of a stoppage of work which was due to a trade dispute at the place where they were employed.

An appeals officer who heard appeals against this determination upheld the decision of the deciding officer. An appeals officer's decision is final in the absence of new facts or fresh evidence.
