Vol. 308 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unmarried Mother's Allowance.

41.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (details supplied) in Dublin, has been refused the unmarried mother's allowance.

The application of the person concerned for a social assistance allowance was disallowed by a deciding officer in accordance with statutory regulations which provide that a woman shall be disqualified for receiving the allowance if she and any person are living together as man and wife. The deciding officer's decision was upheld by an appeal's officer.

Following the subsequent notification of a change of address, her case was again referred to a social welfare officer for investigation. As a result of the officer's report the applicant has now been granted a social assistance allowance with effect from 19 July 1978, the date of change of address.

An allowance order book has been issued to her and any arrears due will be paid by means of payable order as soon as possible.
