asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the intake of pulpwood at the following pulpmills in 1977: (a) Munster Chipboard, Waterford (b) Scariff, County Clare (c) Athy Boardmills, County Kildare and (d) Clondalkin, County Dublin.

The information requested by the Deputy is furnished on a confidential basis to my Department. I regret, therefore, that it could not be supplied without the express permission of the individual industries concerned.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will take steps to set up a special marketing board to promote the sale and use of Irish timber products.

I have no present intention of setting up a special marketing board to promote the sale and use of timber produce.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the projected output from State forests of (a) pulpwood and (b) sawlog in 1980, 1985 and 1990.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the projected output for private plantations of (a) pulpwood and (b) sawlog in 1980, 1985 and 1990.

Projected output from private forests is unlikely to change significantly in the period covered by the Deputy's inquiry.

It is estimated that about 70,000 cubic metres annually of material could be produced from conifer crops. Of this up to 19,000 cubic metres might be utilised as pulpwood and the balance as sawlog.

In addition, broadleaved crops are expected to produce about 12,000 cubic metres of timber and 16,000 metric tonnes of lower grade material which might be utilised as firewood.
