Vol. 308 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dunaff (County Donegal) Slipway.

21.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the progress which has been made in the provision of a slipway at Dunaff, County Donegal.

My Department has requested the Office of Public Works to furnish an engineering report and estimate of cost of providing an extension to the existing slipway at Dunaff.

When is it expected that the decision will be arrived at as to whether any work will be done there?

On 24 October the Office of Public Works were asked by me——

This year?

Just now.

A few days ago?

A few days ago, yes. The Deputy has provoked a bit of activity and this is the purpose of the Parliamentary Question, is it not? There is a bit of reaction and the Office of Public Works are being asked to prepare an estimate of the cost in regard to the provision of a slipway there, which is the main requirement in the area, and also to increase the height of the breakwater by two feet.

Why did the Office of Public Works not prepare an assessment? What was the purpose of their investigation heretofore if it was not with a view to providing an estimate and a prospective plan of what might be done? Why wait until now since the investigations have been going on for some time?

I have every sympathy with the Deputy's attitude and it is a tribute to the power of the Parliamentary Question that some action is now being taken.
