477.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if—and when—he will supply a public telephone for the inhabitants of the Llewellyn Estate, Ballinteer, Dublin 16; and if the line currently used by the contractor on the site can be made available for this purpose.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 476 and 477 together.

The distance from the furthest house in Llewellyn Estate to the nearest existing telephone kiosk at Broadford Walk is approximately 1.4 miles. It is planned to provide two additional kiosks to serve the needs of the Ballinteer area, including Llewellyn Estate. One, at Grange Wood Estate, will be provided shortly when the necessary cable becomes available and the other, at Broadford Drive, as soon as possible after local authority consent to a suitable site has been obtained. The use of the contractor's line in the Llewellyn Estate does not arise.
