Vol. 308 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Stations.

485.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the recent reduction in the number of serving gardaí in the Donnybrook and Irishtown, Dublin 4 Garda stations, and having regard to the number of special guard duties for embassies, Ministers and Ministers of State, and members of the judiciary in this area, the plans he has to increase the strength of the gardaí in these two stations; and when these plans will be implemented.

486.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the reduction of the number of gardaí in the Donnybrook and Irishtown, Dublin 4 Garda stations in recent months, he will now make provision for a squad car to be based at Irishtown Garda station and be exclusively for the use of that station, thus relieving this area's dependence upon the squad car which is based at the Donnybrook station.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 485 and 486 together.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that four recruit gardaí are being allocated to Irishtown station on 10 November. There are no immediate proposals for an increase in strength at Donnybrook station but the police needs of the area will be further considered according as the additional manpower being recruited becomes available for assignment to the various centres.

There is no proposal at present to allocate a patrol car to Irishtown station but the matter is being reviewed by the Garda authorities.
