Vol. 309 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drug Traffic.

26.

asked the Minister for Justice whether a member of the Garda Síochána was present at a recent meeting in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, to discuss ways to curb the flow of drugs from the "Golden Triangle" border region with Laos and Burma.

The gardaí have no record of any recent meeting in Chiang Mai. A meeting of representatives of European, Asian and American nations was held there in July 1976 to discuss the flow of illicit drugs from Asia to Europe.

The gardaí were not represented at the meeting but they received a full report on it from Interpol, which included all of the suggestions put forward with a view to curbing the problem.

The remaining questions will appear on the Order Paper on Tuesday, 21 November 1978.
