Vol. 310 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

366.

asked the Minister for Education why children (details supplied) in County Offaly are not in receipt of school transport facilities, since there is no room for them in their nearest school, Drumakeenan national school, County Offaly.

There is as yet no transport service operating to Clonlisk national school on which these children could be facilitated. As soon as a service to Clonlisk N. S., which has been sanctioned, commences, the children in question may avail of it.

367.

asked the Minister for Education why children (details supplied) in County Offaly are not in receipt of school transport from their homes, unlike other children in the area.

The residences of the pupils in question are approximately one mile from the nearest pick-up point. As these children are considered to have an adequate standard of service an extension of the bus route further in their favour would not be warranted.

368.

asked the Minister for Education why school transport has not been granted to children (details supplied) in County Offaly.

As regards the first named family, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 356 of 22 November 1978.

The children in the second family mentioned are both over ten years of age and since they reside less than three miles from Ballykilmurray N. S. they are not eligible for free transport. The bus in question is carrying a capacity load at present and it is not therefore possible to offer concessionary fare-paying transport to these children. The position is being kept under review and every effort will be made to facilitate them as soon as there is room on the bus.
