Vol. 310 No. 7

Written Answers. - Car Ferry Service.

220.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will make a full statement on the proposed car ferry to serve Passage East, County Waterford and Ballyhack, County Wexford; and when the car ferry is expected to commence operations.

A person wishing to operate a ferry service between Passage East and Ballyhack would not require specific authority from my Department provided he operates in accordance with the Merchant Shipping Acts and that any installations provided on the foreshore below the high water mark are cleared in accordance with the Foreshore Act, 1933. It would be advisable for an intending operator to consult the Waterford Harbour Commissioners within whose jurisdiction the proposed route lies.

My Department have had inquiries from a number of interests about the possible operation of a car ferry service between Passage East and Ballyhack and the position has been explained to them. I have no information about the possible commencement date of a ferry service on the route.
