Written Answers. - South Tipperary Social Welfare Applicants.

216.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of female applicants for unemployment assistance in the constituency of South Tipperary, who are (a) granted assistance and (b) refused, together with the reasons for such refusal.

The statistics sought by the Deputy are not maintained.

217.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of applicants, in the constituency of South Tipperary, for the most recent yearly period for which figures are available, who (a) applied for, and (b) were refused (i) unemployment assistance and (ii) unemployment benefit, distinguishing between male and female, together with the reasons for refusal.

The statistics sought by the Deputy are not maintained.

218.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (details supplied) in County Kerry, did not qualify for a non-contributory old age pension.

The person concerned has been in receipt of a non-contributory old age pension at the rate of £7.15 weekly from 7 October 1977 increased to £8 from 1 April 1978. An application for an increase of pension received on 1 September 1978 has been investigated and the social welfare officer has recommended to the local pension committee that an increased pension of £10.80 should be payable from that date.

The increased pension will be paid as soon as the decision of the pension committee to that effect has been received.

219.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why the arrears of the non-contributory old age pension of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry, have not been paid to the deceased's representatives.

A search of my Department's records has failed to identify the person concerned as being in receipt of a non-contributory old age pension. However, there is a contributory pension in payment to a person of similar name in Ballinknockane, Ballydavid, County Kerry. A notification of death has not been received in respect of this person but inquiries at Dingle post office reveal that the person's pension order renewal books which issued in April and October 1978 have not been collected. These pension order books are being recalled and inquiries are being made to ascertain if this is the person referred to by the Deputy. As soon as confirmation is received that this is, in fact, the person concerned any arrears of pension due will be paid to the legal representatives without delay.
