Vol. 310 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clonmel School.

257.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the new school proposed to be provided at Heywood Road, Clonmel, County Tipperary, (1) when the proposal was first submitted to his Department, (2) the up-to-date position, and the time schedule for carrying out the work, indicating particularly, the commencement and completion dates, and (3) the amount of (a) State grant and (b) local contributions.

The need for a new national school at Heywood Road was first raised in 1973 following a survey of the future educational requirements of Clonmel.

Revised sketch plans for a new sixteen-classroom school have been received from the Commissioners of Public Works and are being examined in my Department at present.

It is too early for me to say at this stage when building work will commence on this project.

The question of the local contribution does not arise until a figure of estimated cost for the school building is available. It is not, however, the practice to disclose the amount of the grant in individual cases.
