(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for Health the number of medical cards cancelled or withdrawn in each quarter commencing 1 July 1977 and the latest date for which figures are available, together with a breakdown between the health board areas.

The information sought is given in the attached table. The grand total shows a reduction from the figure given in reply to the Deputy's question on 1 November 1978. This is due to subsequent modification of the earlier figures received from the Southern Health Board. These figures, of course, take no account of new cards issued and over the same period the total number of medical cards increased by just over 12,000.
