Vol. 311 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bilateral Aid Programme.

197.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs (i) the amounts of the funds allocated in 1977 from the Bilateral Aid Programme for projects to be executed by private firms which were carried over to 1978 and spent in that year; and (ii) (a) the sums, exclusive of those carried over from 1977, allocated from the 1978 Bilateral Aid Programme for expenditure on projects to be executed by private firms, (b) the amount spent by 31 December 1978, and (c) the amount allocated from the 1978 programme but not spent by 31 December, if any, carried over for expenditure during 1979.

Some £268,000, allocated for projects to be executed by the private sector in the 1977 Bilateral Aid Programme, was unspent and was carried over to 1978. The practice with such unspent allocations is to incorporate them into the budget for the following year and to draw up a new programme based on the total amount available for bilateral aid.

Under the 1978 Bilateral Aid Programme, £501,872 was allocated for projects to be executed by the private sector, of which £203,444 was spent by 31 December last.
