Vol. 312 No. 3

Written Answers. - Multiple Sclerosis.

163.

asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to give a grant for research into multiple sclerosis and if he is aware that there is no government grant to deal specifically with this disease and research into its causes.

The Exchequer supports medical research through grants to the Medico-Social Research Board and the Medical Research Council.

The Director of the Medico-Social Research Board has taken a very special interest in multiple sclerosis and has published epidemiological studies of the disease in Ireland and other countries.

The Medical Research Council also sponsors research on multiple sclerosis in this country.
