Vol. 312 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Hospital, Tullamore, Appointment.

170.

asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, to appoint a second gynaecologist at the County Hospital, Tullamore, County Offaly.

Approval to the appointment of a second obstetrician-gynaecologist at Tullamore Hospital is a matter in the first instance for Comhairle na nOspidéal whose statutory function it is to regulate the number and type of consultant medical staffs.

I understand that applications which were made by the Midland Health Board to the comhairle for the appointment of a second obstetrician-gynaecologist at Tullamore Hospital were refused by the outgoing comhairle. It is a matter for the health board to consider whether the application should be reviewed at any time.
