268 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the total amount spent on education in each of the years from 1995 to 2001 by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28216/01]

The 2001 figure quoted is the gross total for the education Votes in the 2001 revised Estimates volume. The increased funding evident in these figures for the years 1997 to 2001 clearly demonstrates the Government's commitment to the education sector.
