(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the average monthly percentage increase in the house building price index for each of the years 1977 and 1978; (b) the average monthly percentage increase in the house building cost index in the last quarter of 1978; and (c) the monthly percentage increase in the house building price cost index in each of the months January and February 1979.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the house building cost index.
The average monthly percentage increase in the index was 1.41 per cent in 1977 and 0.61 per cent in 1978. The corresponding increase in the last quarter of 1978 and in January 1979 were 1.00 per cent and 2.07 per cent respectively. The figure for this month is not yet available.
