Vol. 312 No. 3

Written Answers. - Housing Finance for Disabled.

176.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals if any, to increase the finances available regarding extensions for houses in cases where people are disabled or suffering from a long-term illness such as multiple sclerosis and the advice if any, which he may give regarding people who find themselves in this subsection.

The maximum recoupment payable by my Department to a local authority in respect of a disabled person's grant was increased from £400 to £1,200 in December 1977. I do not propose to increase it further at this stage.

Any person who wishes to avail himself of a disabled person's grant should apply to his local authority— county council or corporation of a county borough. As I stated in a reply to a question from the Deputy on 20 February 1979 a disabled person may be eligible for aid from sources under the control of other Departments and from philantropic bodies.
