Vol. 312 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dundrum Mental Hospital.

2.

asked the Minister for Health if he will meet a deputation from the Mulvey Park Residents' Association to discuss the health, security and related aspects of the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, in the light of the recent escape from the premises.

This hospital is operated by the Eastern Health Board and that board are primarily responsible for the security arrangements there. I understand that there was a meeting on Saturday, 24 February, between representatives of the local residents and officers of the health board to discuss the circumstances of the recent escape and that, in so far as it was possible to do so, assurances were given by the officers of the board to the residents. As I would not expect to be able to add to these assurances I do not think that a meeting between me and a deputation of the residents' association would be of any particular value at this stage.
