Vol. 312 No. 5

Written Answers. - Youth and Sport Projects.

197.

asked the Minister for Education the amount of money granted to VEC's for youth and for sport projects for 1970; and if it is intended that such finance could be used for assistance in the appointing of free time youth officers.

A sum of £200,000 will shortly be made available to the vocational education committees to provide assistance for youth and sports activities within the committees' areas of administration. The question of using part of this finance to enable youth officers to be appointed is being considered in the general context of the provision for youth this year.

In addition, £250,000 is being made available to Comhairle le Leas Óige through the City of Dublin VEC, £6,000 to Ógra Chorcai through the City of Cork VEC and amounts of £1,000 each from the City and County Limerick VECs towards the Limerick Diocesan Youth Service.
