Vol. 312 No. 8

Written Answers. - Meath State-aided Companies.

157.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the amount of public money spent in the form of grants and aids to new companies just establishing themselves, or to older established companies in County Meath in the years since 1970 to the latest date for which figures are available.

In the period from 1 April 1970 to 31 December 1978 amounts totalling £5,241,238 were paid by my Department, and the agencies under the aegis of my Department, to companies in County Meath.

158.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the number and names of State-aided companies in County Meath that have failed since 1960; the amount of public money in the form of grants and aid paid to each of these companies; and the number of jobs lost by each of these companies as a result of their closure.

As there is no obligation on companies to notify my Department of their intention to cease operations I am not in a position to give a comprehensive answer to the question.

The following is a list of companies in County Meath which are known by the Industrial Development Authority to have failed (that is to have closed and not reopened or relocated) in the period, together with the moneys paid by my Department, and by the agencies under the aegis of my Department, to each company. The employment as at 1 January prior to the date of closure is given where this is known.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the number and names of State-aided companies established in County Meath since 1960; the amount of public money paid to each of them; and the number of jobs provided by each of the companies.

The following is a list of the companies which established in County Meath since 1960 with IDA assistance, together with information on moneys paid by my Department and by the IDA to each company. It is not the practice to give information about the employment situation in individual firms; the total employment in the companies listed was approximately 1,150 on 1 January 1978.
