Vol. 312 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Industries.

160.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy what efforts are being made by the IDA to locate an industry in Nenagh, County Tipperary, to offset the recent closure of a company (details supplied).

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they are co-operating with the company named by the Deputy in seeking a promoter to take over the assets of the company. No firm proposals have, however, emerged to date.

The IDA have set a target to create 500 news jobs in Tipperary North Riding in their Industrial Plan 1977-1980. This target may be increased in the 1978-1982 Industrial Plan to be published shortly. Every effort will be made to ensure that this revised target will be met.

The authority are constructing a 16,800 sq. ft. advance factory in Nenagh at present. The factory is expected to be completed by October 1979 and will be promoted for a suitable industry for the town.

I should add that the Shannon Free Airport Development Company is also endeavouring to promote the development of industry in Nenagh.
