Vol. 312 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rathangan (Kildare) Garda.

165.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that there is no resident Garda in the village of Rathangan, County Kildare; that the local residents are very anxious that a member of the force should be posted there and whether he will arrange accordingly.

The allocation of Garda personnel in a situation of this kind is a matter for the Garda authorities. I am informed by them that while the approved strength at Rathangan Station is one sergeant and one garda, the present actual strength is one sergeant. They will arrange to restore the full strength to the centre as soon as circumstances permit and, in the meantime, the service provided there will continue to be supplemented by assistance from the district headquarters at Kildare as and when required.
