Vol. 313 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Orals Answers. - Adult Education Officers.

16.

asked the Minister for Education the manner in which the adult education officers recently announced will be allocated as between VEC's, comprehensive and community schools and other educational institutions.

This matter is under examination at present and I will make a statement in regard to it as soon as possible.

Could the Minister give me some indication of the apportionment between vocational education committees and comprehensive and community schools? Is he aware that there is some apprehension among those involved in comprehensive and community schools that a sufficient number will not be allocated to these schools who, it must be admitted, are taking adult education schemes to a large extent?

I can assure the Deputy that there is no need for apprehension in any section. Fifty officers will be appointed and I think that that is a marvellous injection into adult education.
