Vol. 313 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Orals Answers. - School Curriculum.

26.

asked the Minister for Education why recognition has not been granted to speech and drama in the school curriculum.

Speech training and drama form an integral part of the children's training in national schools. It is a fundamental constituent of the new curriculum and a detailed syllabus for all standards is outlined in the programme.

In the case of second-level schools, speech and drama are catered for in the context of Irish, English and other language studies. It is not possible, in existing circumstances, to have speech and drama included as a separate subject in the curriculum of these schools.
