Vol. 313 No. 6

Written Answers. - Official Map Records.

253.

asked the Minister for Finance, in view of his recent criticism of Country Wexford planners resulting from the preparation of a town development plan for Enniscorthy based on out of date Ordnance Survey Maps and on the understanding that identical problems are being experienced in all spheres of map usage throughout Ireland, if there are any immediate plans to improve the efficiency of official map records.

A re-mapping programme, designed to improve official map records, is being executed by the Ordnance Survey Office. For this purpose, that office has recruited in the current year an extra 60 cartographers (surveyors).

254.

asked the Minister for Finance if computerisation is under consideration for the Ordnance Survey Office; and, if so, if it is envisaged that local authority map records concerning planning decisions, local authority property and location of services will be stored in the computer.

A computer system designed to assist in the production and storage of mapping information obtained from surveys has recently been installed in the Ordnance Survey Office. It is not intended however, nor would it be practical, to store, in the computer the non-survey data referred to by the Deputy.
