Vol. 313 No. 6

Written Answers. - Limerick Traffic.

279.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will recommend to CIE and Limerick Corporation that the city's traffic problems be reduced by increasing and improving public transport rather than by introducing punitive and expensive disc parking methods.

280.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that Limerick Corporation plan to introduce disc parking against the wishes of the population of the city as expressed by the trades council and other bodies.

281.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the traffic congestion in Limerick city and if he has any plans to deal with the problem.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 279, 280 and 281 together.

Responsibility for the formulation of measures to relieve traffic congestion in Limerick rests with Limerick Corporation, acting in conjunction with the Garda Síochána where statutory controls are concerned. With regard to disc parking, no proposals have been made to my Department as to amendment of the local traffic and parking bye-laws. Proposals relating to CIE services do not come within my functions.
