Vol. 313 No. 6

Written Answers. - Limerick Bridge.

282.

asked the Minister for the Environment if a third bridge over the Shannon in Limerick city is being planned; if so, the date when the project will begin and if the bridge will be a toll bridge.

Limerick Corporation have submitted a preliminary report in support of their application for a bridge order for a new bridge over the Shannon, from Mallow Street to Cleeve's Bank. I informed the corporation on 1 March 1979 that I propose to arrange for the holding of a public local inquiry into the application for a bridge order when certain information is available for presentation at the inquiry. A final decision on the project must await the outcome of the inquiry and, accordingly, I am not in a position to give an indication as to when work might commence. The project is proceeding on the basis that it will be financed by way of road grants from my Department and I am not aware that Limerick Corporation has any firm proposal to have the bridge constructed as a toll bridge.
