Vol. 314 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Grant.

303.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that Donegal County Council have projected figures showing that the £550 housing grant in 1966 now represents a figure of £2,500 and his proposals, if any, to increase the grant to its present day value.

I am not aware. Presumably the Deputy is referring to the normal new house grant of £275 payable in 1966, plus a supplementary grant of a similar amount which may have been paid by a local authority. On the basis of figures published by the Central Statistics Office in relation to the purchasing power of the £1, the value of the State new house grant of £275 in 1966 was less than £1,000 new house grant paid in 1978.
