Vol. 314 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Road Structure Improvement.

304.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount to be spent on improving the road structure of Dublin City and county in the next five years and the plans for the main Dublin-Belfast road with particular reference to the road from Dublin city centre to Dublin Airport.

In the Road Development Plan for the 1980's I have indicated in Table No. 1 the major improvement schemes proposed for the Dublin region including the improvement of the Dublin/Belfast road in the next decade. I have also provided in the plan for a programme of normal improvement works to be financed by road grants. In addition the annual road works programmes of the road authorities in the Dublin region will provide for improvement works to be financed from their revenue resources.

While I have indicated in the plan the anticipated level of Exchequer investment in the coming decade, the execution of the improvement works referred to and other works is dependent on the state of preparedness by the road authorities concerned in respect of individual projects and the Government's assessment of the priority ratings which should be given in any year to the many and varied competing demands for public funds.

In these circumstances I am not in a position to give the detailed information requested by the Deputy.
