Vol. 314 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Road Workers.

305.

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the fact that some local authority road workers face redundancy if he will take immediate action to ensure that local authorities can proceed with local improvement schemes and environmental works.

I do not accept that local authority road workers are facing redundancy as stated by the Deputy.

I notified local authorities in February 1979 of grants amounting to £2.75 millions and £4.28 millions under the local improvements scheme and the environmental improvement schemes programme respectively for work this year. It is a matter for the local authorities to decide on the timing and execution of the schemes.
