Vol. 314 No. 5

Written Answers. - Diesel Oil Shortages.

278.

asked the Minister for Finance if, owing to the concern caused by shortages of diesel oil, it is permissible in emergencies for diesel car owners to use red diesel in their vehicles.

The use of rebated hydrocarbon oil (marked gas oil) for combustion in the engine of a motor vehicle is statutorily prohibited by section 21 of the Finance Act, 1935, as amended, and such use constitutes an offence for which penalties are provided. Accordingly it is not permissible in emergencies for diesel car owners to use red diesel in their vehicles.
