Vol. 314 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Dublin School.

287.

andDr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Education, in relation to Mary Queen of Angels (1) school, Ballyfermot, (a) when the classrooms were last painted; (b) when the corridors and toilets were last painted; (c) when the school was built; (d) if he will make public money available for maintenance of that part of the building which is not used by children at the moment, to avoid deterioration; and (e) if he will sanction the appointment of an extra remedial teacher for the school.

The scheme of grants towards the cost of periodic painting of national schools was discontinued in 1955 on the introduction of the present scheme of capitation grants. My Department do not, accordingly, have the type of information requested by the Deputies at (a) and (b). The school in question was built in 1961.

Boards of management of national schools are required to maintain the entire school premises. The rate of capitation grant has been increased from £8 to £10 for the current school year.

Before the question of the appointment of an extra remedial teacher to the staff of Mary Queen of Angels (1) School, Ballyfermot, could be considered an application would have to be received from the school board of management. I have not received such an application.
