andMr. Deasy asked the Taoiseach if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

No public relations consultants were employed by my Department, or by any bodies under the aegis of my Department from 1 August 1977 to date.

There was no public relations consultancy employed by my Department from 1 August 1977 to date.

In relation to bodies under the aegis of my Department the question of employing public relations consultants is a matter of day-to-day administration in which I have no function.

No public relations consultancy was employed by the Department of the Public Service or anybody under their aegis from 1 August 1977 to date.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

No public relations consultancy was engaged by the Department of Health in the period in question. As regards the bodies under the aegis of my department the question of employing public relations consultants is a matter of day-to-day administration and as such is a matter for the bodies concerned.

No public relations consultancy was employed by my Department or any body under the aegis of my Department during the period specified.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

My Department have employed no public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date. In so far as the bodies coming under the aegis of my Department are concerned the employment of public relations consultants is a matter of day-to-day administration for the bodies concerned.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

My Department employed a public relations consultancy, viz: Peter Owens Limited, during the period mentioned. It would be contrary to practice to disclose the value of an individual contract.

Radio Telefis Eireann is the only body under the aegis of my Department and I have no statutory function in the matter of the employment of consultants by that body.

My Department has not employed a public relations consultancy during the period 1 August 1977 to date. However, the undermentioned semi-state bodies have done so during the period in question and details are given beneath:

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Industry, Com-merce and Energy if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

In the period specified, my Department have employed one such firm, O'Keeffe's Ltd., 49 Fitzwilliam Square, to undertake a publicity campaign to promote energy conservation among private motorists. The cost of the campaign was £60,000.

So far as the bodies under my aegis are concerned the employment of public relations consultants is a matter of day-to-day administration for the bodies themselves and one in which I have no function.

No public relations consultancy has been employed by my Department, or by any body under the aegis of my Department, from 1 August 1977 to date.

The answer to the first part of the Question is "No".

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm, fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

No public relations consultancy was employed by my Department in the period in question.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

A public relations consultancy was employed in October 1978 in connection with fire prevention matters. The name of the firm is John McMahon and Partners Ltd. and the fees and expenses paid amount to £2,486.13.

No other public relations consultancy was employed by my Department, or body under the aegis of my Department since 1 August 1977.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Labour if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

No public relations consultancy assignments were made by my Department. With regard to the semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department, such assignments would be part of their day-to-day administration, in relation to which I have no function.

Neither my Department nor any body under its aegis, employed a public relations consultancy during the period 1 August 1977 to date.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Economic Planning and Development if his Department or any body under the aegis of his Department employed a public relations consultancy from 1 August 1977 to date, if so, the name of such firm; the fees and expenses paid to such consultancy.

The National Board for Science and Technology has engaged the services, on a contract basis, of Holden Communications Ltd. No fees or expenses have been paid to date.
