Vol. 314 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Clare Schools.

130.

asked the Minister for Education if he will authorise the Office of Public Works to undertake the provision of toilets, et cetera, and all necessary repairs to Baltard national school, County Clare.

131.

asked the Minister for Education if and when he will approve of the necessary expenditure on Bansha national school, County Clare, and if he will authorise the Office of Public Works to undertake the provision of toilets and all necessary repairs.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 130 and 131 together.

The question of the rationalisation of the educational facilities in the parish of Doonbeg has been under consideration by my Department for some time but, unfortunately, it has not been possible to bring any scheme of centralisation of the schools in the parish to a satisfactory conclusion. I have, in the circumstances, authorised grants for necessary works of improvement to Baltard national school. In view, however, of the small number of pupils from Doonbeg parish who attend Bansha national school and because of its proximity to Baltard national school, I am not in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of extensive works of repair which would be necessary to put the premises into a satisfactory condition.
