Vol. 314 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Animal Feeds.

50.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is intended to introduce controls in relation to animal feeds on sale here to provide greater monitoring, control and information about such matters as digestibility, and the presence of harmful chemical residues.

The question of controls and information in relation to animal feeds is being considered in the light of a recent Council directive on the marketing of compound feeding stuffs.

Limits for certain undesirable substances are already laid down under 1977 regulations here. The question of extending these controls to cover pesticide residues will be considered when a decision has been taken on a Commission proposal at present before the Council of Ministers.
