Vol. 314 No. 12

Written Answers. - Southern Cross Motorway.

82.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the Government's pre-election commitment to the building of the Southern Cross route includes a commitment to that section of the route between Scholarstown and the Bray Road; and the anticipated timetable for the completion of that portion of the route.

As I have already informed the House, I have approved in principle proposals of Dublin County Council for the construction of a new road between the Red Cow on the Naas Road and Harold's Grange, and to the council proceeding with detailed planning for the route. I have also provided road grants totalling £1.385 million to the council towards the cost of a scheme for a section of the route from Naas Road to Tallaght Road on which the council have commenced construction work.

As I have approved of the proposal submitted to me by Dublin County Council for the new route and as there is no further proposal before me from the council for a continuation of this route, I am satisfied that I am meeting the commitment referred to by the Deputy.
