Vol. 314 No. 12

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire New Highway.

97.

Mr. Cosgrave

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the concern of residents and traders in Dún Laoghaire at the proposed new highway which will affect Northumberland Avenue and adjoining areas; and if adequate protection will be provided for the interests of residents and traders in the area.

I am aware that some residents are concerned about a proposal by Dún Laoghaire Corporation to provide a central area relief road, which I presume is the proposal referred to by the Deputy.

The planning and execution of this scheme are matters wholly within the discretion of Dún Laoghaire Corporation and would not require to be submitted for my sanction. The cost of the project would fall to be financed from the corporation's own resources supplemented by the general (block) grant provided annually by my Department.
