Vol. 315 No. 10

Written Answers. - Ballina National School.

134.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that wishes of the parents of children attending Carne National School, Garranard, Ballina, County Mayo who are anxious to have the school repaired and extra rooms added are being denied; that a new school is planned on a site previously planned to replace the two schools in the parish; if this is a reverse of his decision not to amalgamate and if he will now direct that the repairs and additions to the original school be carried out.

There is no question of amalgamation now at issue in this case. The position as to the Carne National School itself is, however, that the Commissioners of Public Works have recommended to my Department, as being in the best educational interests of the pupils, the provision of a new building on a new site, to replace the existing building which is not regarded as suitable for retention.

A site for the new school offered by the school authorities has been accepted as suitable and the preparation of sketch plans has been completed.
