asked the Minister for Education when the prefabricated classroom in use at Donacarney National School, County Meath will be replaced by permanent accommodation.

It is understood that a new extension has recently been completed at Donacarney National School and that the prefabricated classroom is not now required for school purposes.

123.

asked the Minister for Education if plans exist to replace the prefabricated classrooms in use at Lismullen National School, County Meath since 1972 and, if not, why.

As stated in my reply No. 441 of 21 November 1978 to a previous question from the Deputy, the position is that my Department has no application for the replacement of the prefabricated classroom at Lismullen National School.

124.

asked the Minister for Education if plans exist to replace the prefabricated classrooms in use at Stamullen National School, County Meath since 1969 by permanent accommodation and if not, why.

Yes. I am awaiting a report from the Office of Public Works in regard to the matter.

125.

asked the Minister for Education the plans to replace the prefabricated classroom in use at Slane National School, County Meath, since 1966 with permanent accommodation and when work will commence.

My Department have proposals for the erection of additional permanent accommodation at Slane National School. I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that tenders have been invited for this scheme.

126.

asked the Minister for Education the plans to replace the prefabricated classroom in use at Batterstown National School, County Meath since 1967 with permanent accommodation and when work will commence.

The question of replacing the prefabricated classroom at Batterstown National School is being considered in the light of proposals for the extension of the existing permanent school building.

I am, at the moment, awaiting a report from my Department's inspector as to the extent of the additional permanent accommodation required at this school.

127.

asked the Minister for Education the plans to replace the seven prefabricated classrooms in use at Duleek National School, County Meath with permanent accommodation and when work will commence.

Following further consideration of the proposals it is now the intention to extend the existing school building at Duleek as a school for boys and to provide a new school for girls.

The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to advise the Reverend Chairman's architect regarding the preparation of sketch plans for the scheme. It is not possible at this stage to say when building work will commence.

128.

asked the Minister for Education when the prefabricated classroom which is in use at Athboy National School, County Meath since 1972 will be replaced by permanent accommodation and when work will commence.

An extension scheme is in progress at this school, which will result in the replacement of the prefabricated classroom. The scheme is expected to be completed at the end of this year.

129.

asked the Minister for Education when the prefabricated classroom in use at Kentstown National School, County Meath since 1968 will be replaced by permanent accommodation.

My Department have agreed to the provision of extended permanent accommodation for this school.

The chairman has been asked to submit satisfactory evidence of title to the site extension so that the project may proceed.

130.

asked the Minister for Education when the prefabricated classroom in use at Cannistown National School, County Meath will be replaced by permanent accommodation.

The Office of Public Works have recommended the provision of a new building in this case. The proposal has been sent to the school management by my Department.

131.

asked the Minister for Education when the two prefabricated classrooms which have been in use at Carnisle National School, County Meath since 1965 will be replaced by permanent accommodation.

It is proposed to amalgamate Carnisle National School with Kildalkey National School when the latter school is suitably extended. It is hoped to invite tenders for the extension of Kildalkey school before the end of this year.

132.

asked the Minister for Education the average life of prefabricated classrooms in terms of safety; and when the prefabricated classrooms which have been in continuous use at each of the following County Meath schools for over ten years have been inspected: St. Ultan's Special School, Kentstown, Carnisle, Kilcloon, Rathbeggan, Batterstown, Slane and Whitecross.

I am advised that, properly maintained, a prefabricated unit can be expected to have a useful life of upwards of twenty years. These units are not subject to periodic inspection unless at the request of the school authorities. No such requests have been received in the case of the schools mentioned in the question.

133.

asked the Minister for Education when the prefabricated classroom in use at Maio National School, County Meath since 1975 will be replaced by permanent accommodation.

Sketch plans for an extension of this school have been approved.

It is too early yet to say when building can commence.
