Vol. 315 No. 12

Written Answers. - Postal Dispute.

162.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (i) the net estimated loss of postal staff wages to date arising from the recent Post Office dispute, taking into account poststrike overtime and other cash settlement terms; and (ii) the net estimated loss of Post Office revenue for 1979.

(i) The gross amount, exclusive of overtime, which Post Office staff who were on strike would have earned during the period of the dispute is estimated at £18 million. It is not possible at this stage to assess to what extent overtime in the period after the strike will be higher than it might otherwise have been. (ii) The loss in postal and telecommunications revenue for 1979 attributable to the strike is estimated at £22 million.
